Call To Action Marketing

Call to action marketing is an instruction to a highly targeted audience geared to provoke an immediate response.

call to actionUsually these are such statements as “call now”, “find out more” or “visit us today”.

A call to action or CTA can be a simple non-demanding request like “choose a color” or “watch this video”.

Or a much more demanding request.

An obvious CTA would be requesting the audience to purchase a product/service or provide personal details and contact information.

Clever call to action marketing strategies often combine a series of small CTAs.

Because these smaller Call To Actions create a pattern of behavior, of hopefully saying yeses, that makes it easy for the audience to follow-through with the main last CTA.

Here are some simple calls to action made by various magazines.

In direct mail, you have to tell people to “mail the enclosed card.”

In internet marketing, we ask for a click this is call to action marketing.

No matter how creative we get, and we can get creative, it still boils down to this one request.

There are three things that nearly all the Call To Actions include:

A no-obligation statement that removes or reduces risk. In many cases, they’re offering a free trial rather than a purchase. In other words, try us, you’ll like us. This gives people the confidence to buy.

All of them tell people what to do next.

The instruction is clear, “Click the button below.”

There is encouragement to respond right away.

They don’t give people an option to wait and think about it.

The pattern is simple so don’t complicate it:

  • Try it, you’ll like it.
  • There’s no obligation, which is the modern version of “send no money now.”
  • Get a response “right away.”

Now there are many other forms of a call to action but the basis above is in them all.
